sich freuen auf oder über?

sich freuen takes two prepositions, and they mean different things:

• auf + Akk. — looking forward to something in the future: Ich freue mich auf das Wochenende.
• über + Akk. — happy about something that is already here or has happened: Ich freue mich über deine Nachricht.

Trap: English “I’m looking forward” has no reflexive pronoun, but German needs the mich.
