während: Präposition oder Konjunktion?

während has two jobs:

• preposition + Genitiv: während der Ruhezeit
• conjunction + clause (Unit 1): während ich koche

A noun after it → Genitiv. A subject and a verb after it → Nebensatz with the verb at the end.
