Auf dem Amt
Sooner or later everyone deals with the authorities (die Behörde, -n). The words of every office visit:
- das Formular, -e — the form: ein Formular ausfüllen
- der Antrag, -“e — the application: einen Antrag stellen
- die Bescheinigung, -en — the certificate, the confirmation
- die Gebühr, -en — the fee
- zuständig sein für + Akkusativ — to be responsible for
Who handles what? Das Standesamt ist für Hochzeiten zuständig.
Tipp
In Germany the office for your address has different names from city to city: Bürgeramt, Bürgerbüro or Einwohnermeldeamt. Look for the word zuständig to find the right one.
