Unit 07 · Learning and education

Education is a core B1 theme, from press texts about schools to the e-mail you write to your course leader. Unit 7 covers school and training in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, learning German, and looking back on what you would have done differently.

• school and training words: das Zeugnis, die Note, der Abschluss, die Weiterbildung
• Modalverben in the Präteritum, and the Perfekt with two infinitives (hat … lernen müssen) to recognize
• Konjunktiv II Vergangenheit for regret, reproach and unreal conditions: Wenn ich das gewusst hätte, …
• dass-Satz or Infinitiv mit zu: the subject decides

Checkpoint: the last lesson prepares Schreiben Aufgabe 3 (formal e-mail, circa 40 Wörter) and Lesen Teil 2 (two Pressetexte, 6 × a/b/c) of the Goethe-Zertifikat B1 and the ÖSD Zertifikat B1 (ZB1), to practice with the official Modellsatz.
